Bridge of Don 2004-
Bridge of Don is just north of Aberdeen. The local church had first hand experience of the Kick team through a mission. This was confirmation for Old Machar Parish Church that they would like to have a team in placement serving in the local community.

Kenny joined Kick as he wanted to give a year of his life to God’s work doing something he enjoyed. “I had the chance during the year to develop leadership skills and made a lot of friendships that will continue in years to come. I really enjoyed going through a Discovering Christianity course with 10, 17year olds. God’s impact on my life really made me see the importance of telling people that long term satisfaction with Him is more important than succumbing to peer pressure for short term pleasure.
My favourite mission venue was Lochinver, great scenery, excellent team and appreciative young people.
My favourite verse is Philippians 4 v 6.
Kenny is currently working with a health company in Glasgow.
I believe that Ukraine will win the World Cup.
Ben joined Kick initially to get a break from the education system. “I met Darren, who was doing Kick in my church and when he told me about it I was pretty sure it was for me and that God had equipped me well for it. I still learned a lot about God during the year and I really couldn’t have done it without Him during some of the tougher times.”
One of the highlights of the year was speaking at a youth event in front of 180 teenagers and realising they were listening to what God was saying through me.
I gained a lot of coaching experience and had lots of fun.
My mission highlight was either Seattle or the tiny village of Cromarty, the people in both places were brilliant.
I am currently studying PE in Sheffield. I really feel better equipped for this following the experience in schools during my year out.
My favourite verse is Psalm 121 v 7 – 8.
I believe England will win the World Cup with Gerard, Rooney and Beckham
Brian joined Kick after the training had started. He had been interested in sports evangelism for a while and planned to go to college in 2006 but felt that God was telling him to join Kick and not to wait.
“I haven’t finished my year yet but it’s but it’s cool to see God moving in my life and In the lives of those I’m working with. The relationships we’ve been able to build up have been great.”
Lochinver is my favourite mission venue, we were involved in Ullapool High School, and the young folks there were really appreciative of our being there. It was great to see a beautiful part of Scotland, “makes you wonder why people don’t believe in God.”
My favourite bit in the bible is Ephesians 6 v 10 – 20, it’s really helped me.
I think Brazil will win the World Cup, they can leave Kaka on the bench!
Peter joined kick as he felt called by God speaking through other people to get involved. “One night I was praying about it and I read the story about Eli and Samuel and decided God was calling me so I went for it.”
Some highlights so far have been the 30 days of pray at the Church, God is really moving and we’ve seen some miracles happen.
My time on kick has helped me include God completely in every part of my life. It’s helped me be more disciplined in spending time with God.
My favourite mission venue would either be Deeside or LOchinver, it’s really small but great fun and everyone is really welcoming.
I think Brazil will win the World Cup, they have a great team, Ronaldinho is brilliant, and they can leave Adriano on the bench
Following a lot of prayer and discussions with his youth worker after finishing college Carl felt God put the brokenness of kids lives in his heart and that the best way to respond to this was to use his talents and join Kick. “I have learned so many things already but particularly that I have to patient with God because His time is not our time and that kids really need someone to listen to them.” Working with the Church in Aberdeen is really cool and seeing what God is doing in the lives of the young people, so many questions about Jesus and God, its great”
Lochinver was great, “it was a shock ‘cos it was so small and we got to know the local youngsters so well.”
My favourite verse is Jeremiah 29 v 11.
At the end of my year I hope to return to Rugby to work with my church, but I’m praying to God which is cool!
I don’t know who’ll win the World Cup. I’d like to say England but maybe Brazil!
